Jeopardy 3rd edition
This set of games was created in spring of 2022. The chapters and its categories are based on the textbook Tu mundo 3rd. edition used at Irvine Valley College and many other universities. These games are free to use for educational purposes (giving appropriate credit would be appreciated). If you are not familiar with this TV game show, you can read about it here.
DESCRIPTION
There are two rounds (2 game boards) of 5 categories with 5 questions in each category plus a final Jeopardy question (total of 51 questions). The first game board has one Daily Double, and the second game board (Double Jeopardy) has two Daily Doubles. Only the person or team that picked the Daily Double question is allowed to answer it. The team can pick the amount they want to wager up to their current point total. For the final Jeopardy round, all teams that have points can participate. After seeing the category of the final question, each team will make a wager ranging from 0 points up to their team’s total point value. Students have until the music stops to write their answer.
PLAYING THE GAME
I usually play this game the day before a chapter test as a review. I divide my class of 40 students in groups of five, give each group/row a number for easy identification, and provide them with a call bell or better yet, a Learning Resources buzzer (each makes a unique sound) to ring in when a student knows the answer. Other effective ways of "ringing in" are to have students raise their hand or stand up. I keep track of the scores on the whiteboard where it's visible for everyone. If you’re going to play again in your next class, you have to close and reopen the file to reset the game..
To play the game, click on the desired chapter below, download the power point and click on the "enable editing" button at the top. Change the name of the instructor to your name and save it.
- To start the game, press the F5 key.
- Click the blue “Check” arrow at the bottom of each slide to show the answer.
- To return to the main game board, click on the “Home” button on the bottom right.
- Once you’re finished with the questions on the first game board, click on the bottom right “Double Jeopardy” button to advance to the Double Jeopardy game board.
- When ready to move to the final Jeopardy question, click on the “Final Jeopardy” button to show the final question category. I usually give a small piece of paper for the students to write down their wager and the answer. After I check each team’s wager amount, I click anywhere to advance to the Final Jeopardy question. All correct answers receive the amount of points they wagered, and all incorrect answers lose the points they wagered.
- I usually give chocolates to the winning team; other instructors give extra credit points; it’s up to you.
