Everyone enjoys a good game of Jeopardy! Help your students review materials presented in Tu mundo in a fun and familiar format. These games were created by Beatrice Tseng after attending a language workshop presented by Dr. Karima Feldhus, who shared a template of this Jeopardy game created by Matt Hamlyn. Professor Tseng originally created a set of Jeopardy games to accompany the Dos mundos textbook, and now to accompany Tu mundo 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. editions. The template for the Tu mundo 3rd edition Jeopardy games was created by Ed Speight. Play these games as a fun and engaging way to review chapter vocabulary, culture and grammar the day before a test. Students become competitive but also cheer for each other while playing. If you’re an instructor and would like a copy of the answer key, please send your request by filling out the “Contact Us” section below. Have fun playing Jeopardy with your students!

She was born in Taiwan but lived in Brazil, Colombia and Panama for 14 years before going to UCLA to obtain her BA in Spanish and Portuguese and MA in Spanish. At IVC she has had the privilege of working closely with her colleagues Jeanne Egasse and Magdalena Andrade, two of the co-authors of Tu mundo and Dos mundos textbooks. Professor Tseng is the co-author of the Instructor’s Resource Kit (IRK) that accompanies the Spanish textbook Dos mundos (4th - 7th editions). She is passionate about teaching and creating fun activities for her classes. Many of her ideas have been incorporated in the IRK and others, like the Jeopardy games, were created separately. She is the recipient of IVC 2004 Teacher of the Year award and the 2011 Most Inspiring Professor of the Year award presented by IVC’s National Honor Society in Psychology.

Playing games in a language course is more than having fun while learning; it creates a sense of community as learners bond over a common goal. Group work encourages interaction and forges a sense of classroom community so essential in a language course. Playing and having fun also lower the affective filter; enabling students to acquire language more readily. The Instructor’s Resource Kit (IRK) that accompanies Tu mundo is filled with activities that invite interaction between and among students, fostering a sense of belonging and community conducive to language learning. Any activity that requires students to move around and ask questions build camaraderie among students, creating a sense of community that facilitates communication and language learning.
